Hot and humid long (run) weekend

What a fun long (run) weekend!

It's time to get serious and train for the A race this year. On Saturday, a group of us went to down Mohican State Park to run the "short loop" of the Mohican 100. I forgot that it was also on the same day as the Medina Half Marathon (MHM) and I signed up to volunteer from 5 to 7:30am at the race. MHM is a club race and I wanted to support the race as much as I could. I blamed it on the ultramarathon training (and work) that I could only volunteer on Saturday morning.

After volunteering, I drove to Mohican and met the rest of the group there. T. parked her car at the Covered Bridge so we could use her car as an aid station (CB is the halfway point of the course). The weather was nice at the beginning of the run and it got really hot and humid toward the end. After the run, I drove home and went to an Ethiopian dinner with P.

On Sunday, there was a fat ass event put together by a local running group called "Trail Seekers" at Pine Hollow. They marked the course and it's a 2-mile loop. They tried to throw in as many hills as possible, which was what I really needed (yay hills!). I met new running friends and caught up with other friends at the event. The event was well supported and the organizers were friendly and very encouraging. They even had donuts and pizza at the event! The weather on Sunday was again hot and humid. It rained a little bit at the beginning and the rain felt really good. I was glad that I got in some heat training for the past two days as Vermont 100 will be hot, too.

Coach C. told me to take it easy on Monday (Memorial day) and that I should do some cross training. It was also the first day for open water group swim at Lake Medina. I thought it was a perfect time. I have not swum since last September and I was not sure if I still remembered how to swim LOL We recently bought a standup paddleboard so P. could go out and paddle while I am swimming in the lake. One of the rules at Lake Medina is that you always have to swim with a partner or a kayak or SUP. It's also a great opportunity to get P. to exercise as he likes paddling and watersports.

On Monday morning, we went to the Memorial Day Quickie Two-miler organized by Medina County Road Runners (MCRR) and, then, we went to the swim. I wanted P. to go out with me because I am a slow swimmer who has not swum for a while (not in the best swimming shape) so I did not want anyone to wait for me. It turned out that P. enjoyed it a lot and would go back with me (yay!).

Overall, it was a nice long weekend. Even better? We also got some work done (although not as much as I had hoped).
